We are committed to creating a team environment in our ice cream shop, so we strive to hire people who fully understand what it takes to become a long-term and dedicated member of our staff. As summer is our busiest season, we do add staff to cover the extra volume of customers during this time, though in general our goal is to hire people for year-round employment.
If you are a self-starter who is friendly, outgoing, dedicated, and reliable, we would be happy for you to submit an application for a position on our Crew. An unwavering sense of humor and a willingness to smile for an entire 5 to 6-hour shift is a must :) We also ask that applicants have the ability to work day, evening, and weekend shifts.
A note for students under 18 interested in applying
Pine Cone Creamery is open until 10:00pm on school nights, and until 11:00pm on weekends throughout the spring, summer and fall. Our shifts usually run 4 to 6 hours. Washington State labor laws limit how late, and for how many hours, students under 18 can work during the school year, so we can't schedule most high school students for our evening shifts.
Because of this, we can only hire applicants who are:
- 18 years of age or older, or
- Under 18 and enrolled in at least one Running Start class
Running Start students: You don't need to be a full-time Running Start student to be eligible. Splitting your schedule between high school classes and Running Start is fine, as long as you're enrolled in at least one Running Start class. Washington law normally limits students under 18 to 4 hours of work on a school day. Our shifts run 4 to 6 hours, so a parent or guardian must be willing to approve an hours variance allowing you to work up to 6 hours per school day.
If you're under 18 and not enrolled in Running Start, please consider applying once you turn 18!
A few things to keep in mind when applying for a position on our Crew:
- We think scooping ice cream is fun but it is also hard work. Your scooping arm gets a serious workout and might even ache at the end of your shift.
- You really, really, really need to enjoy interacting with people. Being friendly, outgoing, and conversational is an absolute must in customer service and we take this requirement very seriously when we hire. If you are going thru a moody and dark teenager phase, we’d like you to apply after you outgrow that stage. Thanks! [please refer back to our requirement of having "an unwavering sense of humor ..." when reading this last sentence. ] ;)
- Please be available to work nights and weekends throughout the summer. Employees will also need to commit to being available on holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day).
- In keeping with our goal of creating a team environment, all employees are equally responsible for completing all tasks necessary in the day to day operations of our ice cream shop. Being physically able to carry heavy, 3 gallon buckets of ice cream is required. Cleaning floors, emptying trash barrels, refilling supplies, and doing dishes (lots and lots of dishes!) are just some of the additional daily tasks that are part of the job description.
